Veteran professionals from Vanderbilt University’s investment team join Diversified Trust Company
William T. SpitzDiversified Trust Company is pleased to announce that William T. Spitz has joined its Nashville office as a principal. Bill Spitz is a co-founder of Diversified Trust and has served as a board member since the company’s inception. After retiring as the Treasurer and Vice Chancellor for Investments at Vanderbilt University in the summer of 2007, Bill began taking a more active role at Diversified Trust. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of Mass Mutual Financial Group, Acadia Realty Trust and London-based Cambium Global Timber Fund. Bill also serves as a member of the Investment Committee for Oxford University. He authored “Get Rich Slowly: Building your Financial Future Through Common Sense” and has received the Rodney H. Adams Award for contributions to the field of endowment management and the Hirtle Callaghan Award for Investment Leadership. During his twenty-two years at Vanderbilt, Bill presided over a ten-fold increase in endowment assets and achieved consistent top quartile performance among peer institutions. Prior to joining Vanderbilt in 1985, Bill worked in several capacities on Wall Street. He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
In addition, Diversified Trust is also pleased to announce that Carol Womack joined the company at the beginning of 2009 as a Principal in the Nashville office. Prior to joining Diversified Trust, Carol spent twenty-three years at Vanderbilt University, most recently serving as Managing Director of Private Markets and working closely with Bill Spitz in the management of the $3.6 billion endowment fund. In that capacity, she had responsibility for a diversified portfolio of venture capital and leveraged buyout investments spanning multiple strategies across the global markets. She also served on the advisory board of seven private equity funds. Carol began her career in public accounting at KPMG. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University, and also received an MBA with honors from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
